Status comes from a Monte Carlo simulation using each team's season-long attack/defense strength, blended with exact math: shield winners = mathematically clinched 1st, nobody can catch them; home field = mathematically clinched a top-4 finish; clinched = a top-8 spot is mathematically secured; in control = not yet clinched, but the simulation likes their realistic chances; on the bubble = genuinely contested either way; danger = the simulation isn't liking their realistic chances; better luck next year = mathematically out; wooden spoon = mathematically locked into last place. The magic number on the playoff line is the points total that guarantees a top-8 finish for any team, no matter what anyone else does (a rival who can only tie it still counts against you). The math tiers only kick in once they're actually settled. Want the exact realistic odds behind a team's status? They're on that team's page. Tap/hold a row for the full team name.
